United Way Launches "Rebuild Monmouth" Initiative
Farrmingdale, NJ – United Way of Monmouth County has announced the launch of Rebuild Monmouth, a major fundraising, volunteer and relief initiative aimed specifically at Monmouth County as it recovers from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Through this program, United Way of Monmouth County will take immediate and long-term action to rebuild Monmouth County and meet the evolving needs of the community throughout the coming months and over the next few years.
“Lives have been changed forever, and our community has changed forever,” says Timothy Hearne, Jr., president and CEO of United Way of Monmouth County. “Rebuild Monmouth will enable us to come together to help those in our immediate area recover from this disaster not just today, but over the long term when other resources might fall short. We are all connected, and we will get through this together by doing what we do best: mobilizing the caring power of our community.”
Through fundraising and volunteer efforts, Rebuild Monmouth’s goal is to help families move back into their homes – or new homes – as soon as possible, while supporting them along the way. This will also entail mobilizing and engaging volunteers for the long term through an existing Volunteer Reception Center and warehouse space. In addition, working through United Way of Monmouth County’s network of local nonprofits, Rebuild Monmouth will help restore these entities to their working capacity to serve impacted communities. The initiative will then focus primarily on needs that are unmet by other funding sources, and it will include the ability for impacted individuals to qualify for assistance for basic needs and living expenses.
United Way of Monmouth County would like to recognize and thank several organizations for initial contributions to Rebuild Monmouth: Meridian Health, for generously donating $50,000 in proceeds from its annual gala; iPlay America, CentraState Foundation and B-Street Band for a benefit concert that raised $3,500; and Best Buy for contributing laptops, printers, gaming systems, flat screen televisions and communications equipment valued at over $3,500.
The community can support the ongoing efforts of Rebuild Monmouth in two ways: through financial contributions and by volunteering. One hundred percent of all contributions will be used for recovery efforts. Donations can be made by visiting rebuildmonmouth.org or via checks made to the Rebuild Monmouth Fund and sent to United Way of Monmouth County, 1415 Wyckoff Road, Farmingdale, NJ 07727.
