Pedestrian Killed in Route 33 Accident

Accident occurred around 5:50 p.m. Sunday night.

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a tractor trailer on Route 33 in Freehold Township, police said.

Freehold Township Detective Sgt. Jerry Kiwit explained that the accident occurred around 5:50 p.m. on Sunday evening. According to Kiwit, the tractor trailer was traveling westbound on Rt. 33 near Rt. 537 when a pedestrian walked into the road and was clipped by the vehicle.

The pedestrian was a 54-year-old man from Dunellen, NJ.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is currently being investigated by Freehold Township Police, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the NJ State Police. Kiwit explained that the NJ State Police is involved in the investigation because the tractor trailer is a commercial vehicle.

I drove by the accident as I stated in my post before. I have since talked to a friend on the Manalapan police force. I was told that he jumped into the front of the 18 wheeler intentionally. He waited until it was right on him and ran into the front of it, not giving the driver any chance to stop. Now this is second hand information and I can not verify any of it. I am sorry for the loss of your friend.
