Surveillance cameras capture the incident and according to the Howell Police Department, the vehicle used was registered to Just 4 Wheels in Lakewood. The IP address of the stolen computer was traced to Brooklyn, NY and found to be in the possession Melamed's girlfriend Meirah Feldman.

Melamed had been selling the cartridges on Ebay and had reportedly said they were damaged or used. A man who bought many of the cartridges provided receipts  and they, along with the checks used to purchase the cartridges were subpoenaed as part of the investigation. Melamed was also seen on bank surveillance videos depositing the checks in question.
