Motor Vehicle Accident On Herbertsville Road Near Thursday's Fatal

Police responding to 'minor' two-car MVA

Howell Township police are investigating what they describe as a 'minor' motor vehicle accident at the site of Thursday's accident, which claimed the life of an 18-year-old Farmingdale man.

Both accidents took place near Circle A Horse Farm, between Route 547 and Newton's Corner Road.

Saturday's 5 p.m. accident involved two cars. Minor injuries were reported, police said.

No further information was available on Saturday's accident.

Jeffrey Smith, 18, of Farmingdale died Friday at 5 p.m. from injuries suffered in Thursday's crash, a spokesperson for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said.

Smith collided with a 2001 Honda driven by 74-year-old Nicholas Spinelli of Freehold, officials said. Also in the car was Spinelli's wife Concetta.

The Spinelli's suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said.

It's amazing how fast people go on that section of road. It's so narrow as you go through the curves. I travel that road almost everyday and with large trucks and cars crossing the lines because their SPEEDING it's a wonder there isn't an accident everyday.

The minor accident refers to the 2nd accident(on Sat.) at the same site as the 1st/serious accident(on Thurs).

For anyone that wants to give me advice. Stick it up ur Meathole. In this day and age we should not have to be subjected to poor roads of transport. The town makes enough money on "save neighborhood" fees off of defendants in court. Let's fix these roads. And you shouldn't name amendments unless u know them all. If anyone had anything to say to me, I work at top tomato in brick. So piss off!

I am certain they will supeona his cell phone records to see what he was doing jus prior to this crash. If it shows texts at that time someone may have a problem.

I remember a case where the person texting the driver was held responsible for the fatal wreck. Not sure of the outcome in the end however.

Herbertsville rd has been here for decades. It is not the road but the behavior of drivers today.accidents occur, however many would not if we did not have the technology we have today.

We never needed IPods before, now we have them everywhere we go. Cell phones are the biggest trigger of accidents in the new age.

We need a ban on carrying cell phones in vehicles period. If it is visible during a car stop by a cop, even if it is off then you should be subject to a summons. They should be off and away when driving like an airplane.

No headphones when driving would be a lifesaver as well since these people are distracted and cannot hear sirens.

Let's get organized and get these legislations passed.

So if your car breaks down in the heat of summer or during a snowstorm your car slides off of an icy road, and you have an infant in the car, and there are no longer any pay phones, you should not be able to reach into your purse or pocket and call for help? How is an iPod any different than listening to the radio? I agree with you about headphones, but that law is already on the books. How about we just enforce the laws that exist, and not create any new laws that place people in harms way? Careless driving is already a law, if a person is involved in a motor vehicle while on a cell phone, charge them with careless or even reckless (if there are other damaging factors like speed, etc) driving. Don't take away phones from people who obey the laws and use them responsibly.
