For the first time since Hurricane Sandy hit last week the number of outages in Howell reported to JCP&L was under five digits on Sunday night. With 6,775 outages reported the township continued to clean up from the storm thanks in large part to the work of its residents and their commitment to volunteering. 

Hundreds of volunteers have turned out over the past week doing everything from going door to door in the senior citizen communities to clearing brush around the town. 

On Sunday afternoon the Howell PAL hosted an event at the old Southard School where they not only helped feed residents who have been without power but also collect items for those in need around the area.

Sgt. Chris Hill of the PAL and the Howell Police Department said they collected an impressive four truckloads of materials that were brought to the bayshore. They also sent a contingent to Toms River to help some families clean their bayfront properties.
