POLL: Artificial vs. 'Cut' Christmas Trees?

For those that deck the halls, there is no greater debate. Which side are you on?

Now that the Thanksgiving leftovers have been mostly eaten, many families are about to move on to another seasonal ritual—trimming a Christmas tree.

But before any popcorn garland can be strung or stars mounted on high, one must answer that most basic of all Christmas-tree-related questions:

Are you a real or artificial tree kind of person?

There are pros and cons to both, of course. While fresh cut firs are beloved for their pine-y scent and lush look, they require water and shed needles all over the floor. [Ed. note: Nobles and Frasers allegedly have the best needle retention.]

Artificial versions sold in stores are by comparison much neater to maintain, but they require a heftier initial investment and space to store the rest of the year.

So what will it be? Tell us where you stand...

    • Fake! Nothing says festive like an all-white pine tree with adjustable limbs!

    • Neither. Trees have nothing to do with my holiday plans.

Fake. But we've only done fake since the kids. When the baby gets older we'll go back to real. I like the simplicity of the fake. (And mine is not white, lol. It's green and I spent a lot of time finding one that looked the most lifelike.)

We alternate each year between artificial and real. It is fun to take the kids to pick and cut the real tree.

Real Tree all of my life. It's so fun to pick out the "perfect" tree each year. They are all different and the smell is so worth the trip.

Always had a real tree until last year. The worst part of the whole decorating deal is putting the lights on the tree. Second worst is taking them off. Bought a pre-lit tree last year. Much easier!

Always new. Love the smell and the time we put into making the tree pretty. A much loved family tradition!

I'd be more than happy to buy a fake one but the family wouldn't allow it.

Fake trees are environment friendly. After all we are leaving in world where cancern over global warming is increasing. So it is our moral responsibility too to save the environment by using artificial trees. I do not think it is a great idea to cut down thousands of trees for some days celebration when we have the alternative options. But yes if we do not have the option expect real one then we should go for it. I apologize if I have hurt anybody feelings.
By the way nice post. Thanks for sharing.
