RBR Athlete Collapses, Dies Monday
Senior Albert Martin collapsed and died while playing basketball at the high school.
A Red Bank Regional basketball player collapsed and died after being rushed to the hospital Monday afternoon.
Albert Martin, 17, of Red Bank collapsed while playing basketball on Dec. 3, according to Red Bank Regional spokesperson Marianne Kligman.
Little Silver Police and EMS responded to the high school gym around 4:24 p.m. and performed CPR on Martin, 17, who was taken to Riverview Medical Center where he died, according to Little Silver Police Chief Daniel Shaffery.
The Bucs were scheduled to scrimmage Point Pleasant Beach, Kligman said.
RBR coach Scott Martin (no relation) told All Shore Media that Martin played the first six minutes of the first quarter against Point Beach and was ready to re-enter the game in the second quarter when he collapsed.
RBR’s counselors and crisis management team will be available for all students and staff who seek these services.
"Our collective heart breaks for his family, friends and teammates and the entire RBR community," Kligman said.
Martin is the second Red Bank Regional student to die this year. Senior Riyadh'Na Farrow, 18, was pronounced dead at home in early September after police received a 911 call reporting an unresponsive female. Authorities had ruled out foul play.

Albert a gentle giant In honor of him & 2 celebrate his life I ask all 2 live as he did. B kind, b a leader-not a follower, b happy, work hard, do ur best & always see the best in everything/everyone. Albert was a gentleman at such an early age; a young man like him are far & few in between. I will miss my Albert &so will many others. There r so many good memories & stories of those that were privileged 2 know him. The RBR &Red Bank Community has lost one of their bests. Albert was an optimistic person with a huge heart&smile. He not only had your back on the court; he had ur back always. Albert had potential & I truly believe he was successful in life by just being himself- a positive influence 2 those around him. RBR staff, teammates, friends &loved ones did everything they could&are still doing so. The 1st responders r commended&Riverview Medical Center staff thank you for your professionalism, love&care to all that were there during this crisis.2 Alberts family;we all have your backs.
