Route 9 Crash Sends One to Hospital

Summonses pending against one driver

Monday night's rush hour traffic took an extra hit after an accident at the intersection of Route 9 and Lanes Mill Rd. 

Just before 5 p.m. 55-year-old Joann Trifiro, of Perrineville was driving her 2012 Mini north on Route 9. Sgt. Joseph Markulic of the reported it was at that time that Jose Badilla, 19, of Lakewood attempted to pass her from the turning lane in his 1998 Honda Civic. 

Markulic said Badilla sideswiped Trifiro's car which caused him to lose control of his car. Following his collision with the other vehicle Trifiro's car went over the curb before hitting the light pole at the intersection.

Following the crash Badilla was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for what Markulic described as "multiple injuries," while Trifiro refused treatment. 

Several groups responded to the scene including the nearby , MONOC and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
