Signs of Life Again in Howell on Thursday
Work being done to repair the damage done by Sandy
On Thursday morning at Town Hall residents filled the new meeting room ready to do their part to help the township.
The volunteers were going to places like the Candlewood neighborhood to help clear brush and debris They were also going to senior communities like The Villages and Surrey Downs to check on residents and offer assistance to people who may not have heard updates on the storm.
As the damage done by Hurricane Sandy remains in clear sight there were also signs that the township was moving forward with repairs and getting back to life as we knew it before the storm.
Most of the traffic lights on Route 9 were still out but late Wednesday the New Jersey Department of Transportation installed a signal at Aldrich Road allowing motorists to move freely through the intersection. That also remains the only place in town, along with the jughandle for Route 195 to go from the northbound side of the street to the southbound side.
The Wawa on Route 9 at White Street also opened its doors on Wednesday evening. By Thursday morning the line to get gas extended out their driveway and all the way down to 195. The convenience store was also open on Thursday and customers were being asked to park in the lot for the neighboring sports consignment shop and walk to the store.
Very few stores remained open as well on Thursday morning. The Home Depot was open for business as were the Lowe's, Target and Stop & Shop but there was no word on what their supplies were as residents look for everything from generators to food. The Pathmark on Route 9 is also open.
There are also crews working on the roadways. One group could be seen working to fix the downed wires at the intersection of Route 9 and Bergerville Road while another could be seen replacing a downed pole by the Pathmark.

I thought I saw that Jersey Mikes had that tent out. Definitely very cool. John it looks like those crews are going to be out there for a while so the coffee might be very much appreciated.
