St. Veronica Students Thrive at History Day

Annual event a tradition at local school

Every year for the past seven years students at St. Veronica's School have stretched their mental muscle with the annual History Day project. This year's theme was "Ideas, Innovations, and Individuals Who Have Changed History."

According to Kelly Kneucker the day is based on an idea from the National History Day Organization, "which promotes learning about history in a fun and exciting way." Each year's theme, she said "promotes a theme and encourages students to complete projects to realize that history can be more than just names and dates committed to memory."

At St. Veronica's the projects at done by students in sixth and eighth grades. Using a tri-board the students are asked to make a display that goes along with the theme. They also make multimedia displays and can even dress up in costumes according to Kneucker.

The students then spend the day in the gym  and teach other students about what they learned as part of the project.
