Thanksgiving Day Fire Displaces Institute Street Family

65 firefighters responded to the Freehold Borough blaze.

Firefighters responded to a blaze at 30 Institute St. at 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving, Freehold Borough Fire Department Chief Ryan Bailey confirmed.

A general alarm was placed to all four companies in the department to respond to the residential fire

“Upon arrival, there was heavy fire showing. There were no injuries but the house is uninhabitable,” Bailey said.

Firefighters had to respond to a heavy exposure threat to a nearby home, he noted.

The chief said no one was in the residence at the time of the fire, and he was unsure of the number of household members. The Red Cross has been contacted to find shelter for the family, Bailey said.

The Freehold Borough Fire Department was the first on the scene and additional responding units included Freehold Township Independent Fire Co. No. 1, Adelphia Fire Company, East Freehold Fire Company, and Freehold First Aid and Rescue Squad, according to Bailey.

Some 65 firefighters responded to the holiday call, he noted.

“Everybody did an excellent job,” Bailey said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office, according to Bailey.

I hope the family is able to seek temporary shelter and is also able to find a permanent place to live. If my eyes serve me right, this is diagonally across from Bruce Springsteen's house owned by Ed and Joan Kress. Too close for comfort regarding that town jewel. We can all be thankful that no one was hurt in the fire.
