Tolls Suspended on Garden State Parkway North

Governor's office announces toll suspension beginning at 6 a.m. on Sunday.

The Office of Gov. Chris Christie announced the suspension of tolls on the northbound Garden State Parkway and the westbound Atlantic City Expressway beginning at 6 a.m on Sunday.

The decision was made to facilitate travel for those leaving coastal areas of New Jersey in advance of Hurricane Sandy, according to a press release.

Tolls will be suspended until further notice on the northbound Garden State Parkway from Cape May to the Driscoll Bridge and on the full length of the westbound Atlantic City Expressway, the release stated.

For updates on travel conditions on state roads during the storm, motorists are encouraged to call 511 or visit 511nj.org.

who knew that it would take a whole lot of wind to do what a wind bag of a governor refuses to do which is veto the tolls that are crippling the middle class.

Excuse me. It isn't HIS fault that the state was contracted to make up the money via toll revenue. Get your facts straight before running your mouth.

parkway authority is an autonomus(sp?) agency. it was supposed to pay for itself buy 1970. blame the parkway authority for union representation and ongoing unneccessary contruction and "improvmets" that don't improve anything. Christie has no say. We have more of a say as commuters. I use route 9, 35 or 18. and when i do rarely use theparkway i pay in pennies and nickles. refuse to get ezcrap.

I guess these Christie haters go from story to story just to make a disparaging comment about our Governor. SOOO many larger problems in life to worry about then how to make him look bad.

With the exception of Bret Schundler, no one running for office has ever made it a priority to end the double taxation of New Jersey residents and tourists by eliminating tolls from the state's two major north-to-south thoroughfares. For decades, politicians have seen the toll agencies as a great place to provide good-paying jobs to their friends and family, and it remains that way to this day. This is the motivating factor behind their steadfast refusal to put a stop to this abuse once and for all.

I'm a liberal & even I can recognize the value of tolls; money's got to come from somewhere. Suck it up, bud.

Tolls should be suspeneded on all toll roads in NJ and not just certain sections. Suspend the tolls till this is all over. Plus I am sure the toll collectors would like to be out of this storm when it hits as well.

Half the time, there is no one there to take the tolls anyway!
They raise the tolls, and then lay off the workers....

If you don't have exact change, and you want to get on at Route 70 (exit 88), and you also don't have "easy pass", you're most likely getting a ticket. I almost NEVER see a live toll collector there. I notice, because I'm one of those guys who gets a receipt every time.
