Township Expects Power Restoration by Saturday Night

Some people may still be without power

Some Howell residents have been without power since Hurricane Sandy hit last week while others were left in the dark after that storm and then again by Wednesday's snow.

According to an email from the Mayor and Council the administration expects the township to be largely back on the power grid by Saturday night. While the bulk of residents should have their power back, "there will be some residents remaining without power due to individual damage to dwellings."

On Friday night there were still 2,651 outages reported in the township but the administration hopes to see those numbers greatly reduced this time tomorrow. "We understand that this is a trying time for everyone who continues to be without power," the email said. "There is no justification for what nature has bestowed on us. We are doing everything in our power to have electricity restored to everyone."

Once power is restored the Mayor and Council said there are still some steps residents may need to take. If the electrical service has been damaged the residents need to call an electrician and not the utility. "JCP&L will not re-energize the dwelling service until it has been properly repaired and inspected," the email said.

While residents are cleaning from both storms the township's recycling center will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. every day for brush and leaf drop off.

got my power back, finally----Five Pts Rd. area. Twp. Emails were useless, without power since the onset of Sandy. Very scary during those high winds, and NO COMMUNICATION from this town! Seventy-foot (plus) Mature Oak Trees crashing down around me, in the middle of the night.....and NO Phone Service ---Not even a Landline.. I was PETRIFIED! WHY......tell me WHY......this town (Howell) didn't have the courtesy/consideration to at least send a Fire Truck around, next day, with a loud-speaker, to check on it's residents?----ANYTHING!-----to console their constituents.

2 days of power in the past 2 weeks in Oak Glen....this is absurd how slow they are in restoring power. I really hope this never happens again in the future, and better safeguards are put in place.

Oak Glen yet? And I mean ALL of Oak Glen. It's usually a patch work of service. Ten houses on, the next ten off, then on again.

Howell Township did absolutely nothing for its residents. They kept sending alerts about helping on public property but did not one thing for its residents!!!!!I can not believe they expected us to go to a County shelter in Long Branch which was hit worst then our town! No schools open ,no warming shelters,no hot food NOTHING AT ALL!!!What kind of BS is this!

I don't understand why the Mayor/Council, or Manager didn't have the decency, at least, to take 5 minutes of their time....to call-into one of the local radio stations, and let us know what was going on, or, even, if they were still alive! I stayed glued to a little battery-operated radio. I heard many mayors from other towns on 101.5. But...NOTHING from Howell Twp! I don't think they realize that most people in this town don't have all the fancy/expensive phones, etc...that they must own. I had NO Phone Service whatsoever, to connect to the outside world...very scary...not to be able to contact my family and friends, after going through that. This is a big township...maybe, too much for them to handle. They might want to start thinking about turning it into 'Wards'.
