Township Provides Update on Current Road Conditions
Utility work and downed wires contribute to road closures
The snow from the recent storm is starting to melt as the temperature rises but residents are still seeing road closed signs throughout the township.
In its latest update the administration said work is continuing to not only restore power to all residents but also open all the roadways in the town.
Route 9 is returning to normal operation with only the lights at Georgia Tavern Road and East 5th Street still inoperable.
Route 547 is also closed from Oak Glen Road to Victory Road. According to the township "JCP&L is on the scene and has shut power to the live wires on the roadway." The township said the company is estimating two hours for the repairs to be completed.
A large tree that has fallen on power lines near Howell High School has closed Southard Ave. from Route 524A to Manassa Road and Tinton Falls Road has been closed from Route 34 to Asbury Ave. because of downed power lines.
A second section of Route 547 is also partially closed just south of Old Tavern Road because of what the township is a "drainage problem. The road is controlled by the county and the township said the road department has been notified.
The administration said drivers should be careful on Victory Road as there is "a utility service from a residence hanging low over the roadway." While the road is "passable," the administration added, "the hazard has been coned out."
JCP&L's website currently lists 4,121 outages in the township and the administration said "they will not provide any specifics," about the outages or when they will be fixed.
