What Should Happen to the Old Town Hall

Tell us your opinions

Now that the offices of the township manager and township clerk have been moved to the new municipal building on Route 9 we want to know what you think should happen to the buildings they once occupied.

The Preventorium Road facility still includes the active senior citizens center but the old Town Hall, the old Howell Fire Bureau building and the former recreation building are no longer being used.

Questions have been raised during the transition to the new building about the costs associated with maintaining the old building. What would you like to see done?

I am a Howell resident and I would like to see the buidings demolished and the grounds turned into park like space for everyone to enjoy. I think mainting grass will be cheaper than a building unless local politics get involved.

That's horrible that your so quick to knock it down it's an historical landmark and is one or the first buildings to be built in this town. I think it should be reused or turned into a museum besides oak glem park is directly across the street

If the buildings that we paid tons of tax dollars to upgrade and stabilize the numerous coats of lead paint and asbestos that they contain are demolished we will be facing a huge bill in decontamination costs. There had to be a better way of handling this issue rather than take a five million dollar ratable off the tax rolls and now expect the taxpayers to come up with addition funds to cover these addtional expenses. It seems we can't afford to finished started projects in the Township now (Aldrich Lake Dredging Project) but we can seem to find other ways to spend money that comes so hard today to so many.

Sorry, but I am still trying to figure out why we needed to move. The building on rt 9 has been a semi failure to who ever owned it,most of the space sat empty. It was nice of the taxpayers of Howell to take it off their hands. This town is filled with corruption and it is getting worse.

How about affordable housing? A community center? There are many positive applications for the properties in question.

You must be from Staten Island with that Idea. The buildings are in a rual sensitive area near the Manasquan reservior, Allire State Park, and you want public housing. there? How nice. First there are no sewers in that area so do you expect to run sewer lines there and destroy one of the most beautiful areas in Howell?
