Woman Struck by Car Listed in Critical Condition

Accident occurred on Aldrich Road

A Howell resident was critically injured after being struck by a car crossing Aldrich Road early Thursday night.

According to Sgt. Joseph Markulic of the Howell Police Department, 20-year-old Stephanie B. Feldman was attempting to cross Aldrich when she was struck by a car driven by 31-year-old Lucia M. Greutert of Toms River.

Markulic said Feldman was crossing the street in the middle of the block away from any cross walks and that Greutert was reportedly, "unable to avoid striking Ms. Feldman."

Feldman was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where Markulic said she was listed in critical condition as of late Thursday night.

Anyone with information about the accident is encouraged to contact Ptl. Scott Brooks at 732-938-4575 ext. 2185 or Markulic at ext. 2831.

"Unable to avoid striking the woman" ... I could understand not being able to swerve out of the way bc of other traffic but you couldn't stop or slow down enough so she could finish walking across... All it takes is paying attention !

I live on Aldrich it is a very busy road and only has street lights at intersection and no crosswalks, it is dangerous to cross and accidents happen all the time

Momma bear - When somebody RUNS into the street directly in front of YOUR car, you will understand exactly what "unable to avoid striking the woman" means. Sometimes accidents are just unavoidable. The pedestrian is not the only victim in this accident. The driver of the car will be forever wondering if there was some way she could have avoided striking the woman. Your comments aren't helping with that. I support driver attentiveness 100%, and I agree that lack of driver attention contributes to a large majority of accidents, but please refrain from commenting if you don't have all of the facts.

Agreed Momma bear. I have been driving for many, many years, and never hit anything let alone a person. I guess this means that we are all allowed to hit people as long as we say that we "were unable to avoid striking the woman". The speed limit is only 40, so why couldn't she stop? There is more to this than meets the eye

ANYONE who lives near this intersection knows that it's a bad one...one impossible to cross at anytime forget it being during rush hour traffic. We also know that no one likes sitting in the route 9 south traffic so as a result EVERYONE cuts through Pinewood. To momma bear, there is no way one can watch everything going on at that intersection with traffic coming from all directions and cars pulling out in front of you and darting across the road AND expect a pedestrian to be crossing the road at the proper place...something needs to be done at this intersection. That's it! It has NOTHING to do with someone paying attention, if anything the person crossing the road is the one who should be paying attention. Not to mention there are NO crosswalk lines there at that intersection.

Are you sure you aren't friends with the driver? Seems to me that this article is trying hard to blame the pedestrian. This is a SMALL town.
