One-year Unexpired term up for grabs
Former Mayor and current Councilman Robert Walsh was the only candidate to file a petition to run in the June 4 primary for the November elections. Walsh, who was appointed to fill the seat vacated when current Mayor Bill Gotto was elected in November, will run to fill the seat for the remainder of Gotto's unexpired term. Before the November elections Walsh opted not to seek another term as mayor. In three months since his appointment to the council he said it has been a good experience. "I enjoy serving the people of Howell Township," he said. "It's a pleasure. It hasn't been a job." Councilman Walsh also said when he was appointed he committed to run again for the remainder of the term. "I knew it would be for at least two years and …

County Republican party endorses Christie in upcoming elections

The governor gives kudos to the two rock stars for helping with Hurricane Sandy recovery, politics aside.
The Jersey Shore area may be known as the land of Springsteen and Bon Jovi. Springsteen has a home in Rumson and Bon Jovi lives in the Navesink section of Middletown. Both are known to show up to support many a cause in the area, including Democratic political campaigns. Neither one has supported Republican Gov. Chris Christie. And Christie is an openly avid Boss fan. But, the two rockers have set politics aside to pool resources to save the Jersey Shore and have been appointed by Christie's wife, Mary Pat, to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund Advisory Board. Bon Jovi came to Sea Bright to see the progress with Sea Bright Rising's tent/food city in the wake of Sandy. The governor has made several stops to Sea Bright as well. When…

Gov. Chris Christie is the best person to lead New Jersey over the next four years, according to voters recently polled in a survey released this week by Quinnipiac University. Christie, a Republican, leads his Democratic rival, state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex), 62 percent to 25 percent in the state's 2013 gubernatorial race, according to the poll. The governor's overall approval rating also remains high. Christie's 74 percent approval rating and 69 percent favorable rating tie his personal record highs from January, the Huffington Post reports, both numbers buoyed by public perception of the way he handled Hurricane Sandy's impact and its aftermath. Christie appears to have strong support on the other side of the aisle, as well. …

There are five districts in Howell and each was open on Saturday for the annual fire district elections. For the Southard Fire House it was an eventful few hours and the final results were not known until Monday morning. Southard was more the exception than the rule as others like the Squankum house saw less than two dozen residents come in and cast their votes. There were six candidates for two seats on the Board of Chosen Fire Commissioners running from the Southard house. According to results provided by board clerk Frank Puccio the two winners were Doug Hesselbarth with 194 votes and Francis W. Pawlowski with 182 votes. The race came down to one vote separating second and third place as Arthur Esposito received 181 votes and Robert …

Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who increasingly finds himself on the national political stage, has a decision to make: run for governor or run for U.S. Senate? Booker, 43, said he's considering both, and will make a decision in the next two weeks, according to the Huffington Post. Speculation has swirled that Booker would seek higher office as his political star starts to shine brighter. Party officials gave him a coveted speaking spot at this year's Democratic National Convention and moves such as living off of the same allotment as food stamp recipients for a week garnered national attention. Now the question is: Which office will he seek and who will he run against? If he goes for governor and wins the Democratic primary, he'll almost …

Walsh didn't want to run for Mayor because he said he wanted to spend more time with his family, then he decided to run for Freeholder (I guess it's not as time consuming as Mayor), but didn't get the nod for Freeholder so he turns around and settles for councilman in Howell? I'm still trying to figure out where his priorities are? And Ray, I'm kinda jumping on the journalism is dead bandwagon. …   more ›
