Modern Vietnam: A Fulbright Scholar's Perspective
Melissa Genovese as she presents about her experiences as a Fulbright Scholar in Vietnam.
Motorbikes, development, laughing and peace; Vietnam has come a long wall since the fall of Saigon in 1975.
From August 2011 through July 2012, Genovese lived and worked in Nam Dihn, Vietnam, teaching English at Nam Dinh University of Technology Education.
During this time, she was able to experience and learn about present day Vietnam and its fast-paced movement towards modernization. Her presentation offers perspectives on
Genovese grew up in Howell, New Jersey. She received her bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education from Rowan University in 2010.
Genovese was a recipient of a Fulbright award to Vietnam in 2011. Since returning home, she has made a mission of sharing her experiences in hopes of creating a better understanding of and future for the two countries.

About New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation
The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial, dedicated May 7, 1995, strives to encourage and foster patriotism and provide for recognition of the sacrifices, courage and valor of the New Jersey veterans of the Vietnam era. The Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center, dedicated in September 1998, strives to encourage and foster a thorough understanding of the Vietnam era, including the political, historical, social, cultural and military aspects that affected the United States, especially New Jersey.
The Museum is located adjacent to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial off the Garden State Parkway at exit 116 in Holmdel, N.J. (on the grounds of the PNC Bank Arts Center). The Memorial is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is free to visit. The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adult admission is $7.00, seniors and students $5.00, children under ten, veterans and active military personnel are admitted free.

The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial strives to encourage and foster patriotism and provide recognition of the sacrifices, courage and valor of the New Jersey veterans of the Vietnam Era. The Memorial honors the sacrifices made by New Jersey residents who gave their lives while serving in Southeast Asia and, at the same time, pays tribute to all who have served. The Memorial is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week at no charge.
The Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center strives to encourage and foster a thorough understanding of the Vietnam Era including the political, historical, social, cultural and military aspects that affected the United States, more particularly New Jersey. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Regular admission is $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students and free for veterans, active military and children ages ten and under. Guided tours of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial and Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center are available to any group of 15 or more people. These guided tours are led by Vietnam veteran volunteers who share their personal experiences. Guided tours must be arranged in advance.
The Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center welcomes more than 14,000 visitors a year. The two largest audiences are veterans and school students. The Museum and Educational Center was planned to augment the Memorial and help visitors gain a better understanding of the war in Southeast Asia and the surrounding political strife in America. It complements the solemnity of the Memorial with a dynamic and lively learning environment.
