Busy Day For Howell Schools Wednesday

A look at events happening in Howell on Wednesday November 13, 2013.

Between Howell High School and Middle School North Wednesday will be a busy day for two schools in the township.

The Howell High School Drama Club will be presenting Tartuffe starting tonight through Saturday at the school. Tickets for the show are just $7 by this group of talented thespians.

The show on Squankum Yellowbrook Road starts at 7 p.m. which means there is plenty of time to head to Woody’s Roadside Tavern for a fundraiser for Middle School North. From 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the school.

A little further south in the local district a special event will be held at the Newbury School at 9:30 in the morning. The program is called “The Function of Behaviors.” Presented by the Department of Pupil Services the presentation is part of a series of programs designed for the district’s parents, particularly those who are parents of children with autism, PDD-NOS and other developmental disabilities. Topics of the event will include how to recognize the function of behavior and treating the behavior by its function as well as how to replace inappropriate behavior with an appropriate behavior.

The National Weather Service is calling for one last cold day today before the temperature rises for the rest of the week. The high for today is expected to reach just 39 degrees before a low close to 28 tonight. Thursday by comparison will have a high near 51 and a low of around 34.

Today is not only World Kindness Day it is also Sadie Hawkins Day and National Indian Pudding Day. Commuters into New York City will be happy to know that on this date in 1927 the Holland Tunnel was opened to the public. The Supreme Court struck down rules that allowed segregation on public buses on this date in 1956.

Birthdays today include talk show host Jimy Kimmel, director Garry Marshall  and actress Whoopi Goldberg.
