Council Holding Last Regular Meeting Before Election Day

A look at events happening in Howell on Tuesday October 22, 2013.

Election Day is two weeks from today making it the last regularly scheduled meeting of the Howell Township Council before local voters go to the polls.

Councilman Bob Walsh is the only member of the dais up for election this year as he runs against Democratic challenger Cochise Doucette and Walsh and the council have a full agenda for tonight’s meeting.

One of the items on the agenda is an amended lease for the Township and the Howell Historical Society for the MacKenzie House. There is also a public hearing on an ordinance to sell property to Monmouth County to be used for the Howell Park Golf Course and the Manasquan River Greenway. The council is also scheduled to introduce an ordinance to acquire property in Mariners Cove following damage sustained in Hurricane Irene and subsequent storms.

The nice weather that we enjoyed on Monday looks to continue Tuesday during the day with a high near 68 expected according to the National Weather Service. Rain is expected to arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday with a low around 49 according to the latest forecasts Monday night.

If you found yourself not making much sense yesterday that could be because it was Babbling Day as well as Count Your Buttons Day. Today is National Nut Day for people who enjoy them for snacks.

On this date in 1746 nearby Princeton University received its charter and in 1934 bank robber Charles “Pretty Boy” Floyd was shot by federal agents in Ohio. Famous birthdays today include baseball player Ichiro Suzuki as well as actor Jeff Goldblum.
