Preventorium History to be Discussed at Library Event

Newly formed Heritage Group of Howell hosting its first meeting at Howell Public Library.

A new group in town will host its first meeting on Thursday discussing one of the more interesting aspects of Howell’s history.

The Heritage Group of Howell is set to meet at 6:30 at the Howell Public Library with a presentation by Virginia Brandl. The topic of the discussion is “Tuberculosis Preventorium for Children.” Brandl is a former teacher in Farmingdale and worked at the Preventorium as a young adult giving her first hand knowledge of what happened at the facility.

The former Preventorium, located on Preventorium Road, most recently served as the Howell Town Hall before the offices were moved to the new Municipal Building on Route 9. Part of the facility also recently housed the old engineering building which is set to be demolished and turned into open space as part of the Howell Park Golf Course.
