Rain Threatens Wednesday Spooktacular

A look at events happening in Howell on Wednesday October 23, 2013.

The annual Howell-o-ween Spooktacular is scheduled to be held tonight even though the National Weather Service is calling for rain for much of the day and into the night.

Whether the annual event is held tonight at Oak Glen Park or the rain date tomorrow it will be a cold night full of spooky fun. Scheduled to start at 5:30 participants can enjoy games and crafts as well as a costume contest. The finale of the night is supposed to be a showing of Hotel Transylvania which is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Unfortunately, if the National Weather Service is right we should see a break from the nice weather today before it returns tomorrow. The forecast for today calls for a high of 51 degrees with an 80 percent chance of rain. Total rainfall during the day could be as much as half an inch of rain. The rain should pass before 7 p.m. making for a mostly clear night with a frigid low near 36 degrees.

Today is a big day for people named Jerry, Maury and Ellen as it’s TV Talk Show Host Day. It is also National Mole Day. The day does not refer to the furry animal but rather the scientific unit of measure.

Fans of the Philadelphia Phillies will remember this date 20 years ago when Joe Carter won the World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays with a home run off of Mitch “Wild Thing” Williams. On this date in 1987 the US Senate rejected the nomination of Supreme Court candidate Robert H. Bork by a 58-42 margin.
