After a day with temperatures in the single digits and wind chills below zero the high on Wednesday of near 23 degrees would normally feel like a tropical paradise if not for a wind chill of eight below on a mostly sunny day. The low near 18 degrees tonight marks a gradual increase in temperatures throughout the week.

By Thursday the winds are expected to lessen making a warmer high near 33 degrees. There is still a chance of snow in the forecast for Friday according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.

On this date in 1815 eventual President Andrew Jackson guided his troops to victory in the Battle of New Orleans. Charles De Gaulle was inaugurated as president of France on this date in 1959.
