Big Meetings Ahead For the Week of May 23

In the week leading up to the Memorial Day Weekend, Howell will be busy as always with plenty of meetings and other events to keep residents busy leading into the holiday. 

The meetings start Tuesday night at 7:30 when the Township Council will wrap up what has been a very long month for them. With meetings the last two weeks, including one on the proposed purchase of the Global building, this week's meeting has a full agenda including the final adoption of the budget for the upcoming year. There will also be a public hearing on a proposed ordinance.

On Wednesday night the Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. in the Cafetorium of Middle School North. This marks the first full meeting with Tim O'Brien as the president and also includes one of his first changes since taking the position. Unlike previous meetings, the executive session will start at 7:30 rather than 7 p.m. The full agenda for the meeting can be found here.

There will also be a meeting of the local chapter of Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) at the library tonight. The meeting will feature a talk by Dr. Thomas Rugino of the Children's Specialized Hospital in Toms River on the differences of using stimulants and non-stimulants to treat ADHD. Dr. Rugino is scheduled to speak at the meeting which starts at 6:30 and runs until 8:45.

On Wednesday night at 7 p.m. the library will host a "Women of Words Book Discussion," with the works of JD Salinger being discussed. The two books on the agenda are The Catcher in the Rye and Franny and Zooey.

The library will also finish up the Thursday Afternoon at the Movies series for the month on a strong note. Starting at 1 p.m. the movie Country Strong will be shown for all those interested in seeing the film. 

On Saturday the library will go international with an English and Polish Story Time thanks to the Polish Supplementary School of Lakewood. Starting at 2 p.m. a variety of stories and songs will be part of the cultural event.

And when Monday rolls around and you are looking for a way to celebrate the holiday, a short trip over to Farmingdale could be just what you are looking for. Starting at 1 p.m. the annual parade will make its way down Main Street. For a good spot, make sure you get there in plenty of time.
