Big Week For Budgets in Howell

The 2013 calendar year is well underway and this week the Howell Township administration and the Howell Public Schools are scheduled to introduce their budgets for the upcoming year. 

On Tuesday night at the new Municipal Building the introduction of the budget is listed among the items on the consent agenda. The budget has been a multistep process with department heads meeting with Township Manager Helene Schlegel before the preliminary budget was presented to the council at the last meeting. 

The budget is not the only item on the agenda. Sgt. Thomas Rizzo of the Howell Police Department will be sworn in as the newest lieutenant in the local department. The national championship cheerleading squad from Howell High School will also be recognized. 

There is also a public hearing scheduled for an ordinance involving the Howell Fire Bureau and the Board of Fire Commissioners. The ordinance was originally introduced at an earlier meeting before discussions with the fire bureau and commissioners resulted in a new version being introdcued at the February 19 meeting. 

On Thursday night at Middle School North Business Administrator Ron Sanasac is scheduled to introduce the district's budget for the 2013-2014 school year. This will be the first meeting since the district adopted a full day kindergarten program. After the last meeting Finance Committee Chairman John Van Noy said he believed the board could continue to meet its goal of a flat tax levy for township residents.
