Celebrity Chef Coming Home For Show at Southard

Marvin Woods to give demonstration

The cafeteria of the Southard will be the place to be this Thursday night when Chef Marvin Woods, a Howell High School graduate, will give a presentation of some of his culinary creations.

The chef, who is a well-known celebrity in places like Atlanta and North Carolina, is being brought back to town by childhood friend Sgt. Chris Hill in conjunction with the Howell PAL. He will be showing how to make recipes from his well regarded cookbooks including "Home Plate Cooking" and "The New Low Country."

Woods' time in the kitchen has been featured in publications like 'O' Magazine, Food Magazine and Wine and Southern Living. He has also teamed with First Lady Michelle Obama and her "Let's Move" initiative.

Sgt. Hill said he has been trying to get his friend to do a show like this so he is glad it is happening this week. He also said he hopes this will be the first of many programs to be held at the former elementary school.

The event starts at 5 p.m. and costs $10 per person. Space is limited so those interested in attending are encouraged to contact the PAL offices by calling 732-919-2825 as soon as possible.
