Easter Events a Success in Howell

Breakfast with the bunny and easter egg hunt draw large crowds

Even a little rain could not dampen the Easter spirit this year as two events brought the community together in a variety of ways.

The fun started on March 25th when the township held its first ever Breakfast with the Easter Bunny at the old Southard School. The day included a full breakfast with eggs, French toast, bagels and drinks, was well as the special guest of honor.

Steven Fecher, the Director of Community Relations said for the first time the event was a rousing success. With 91 people showing up Fecher said it was a full house at the new home of the Howell PAL. "I decided back in January lets try it and go with it," he said.

Since the PAL building was available Fecher said it added a new level to the options available to the township. "We have a room now that we can hold an indoor event," he said.

This past weekend the annual Easter in the Park at Oak Glen Park was scheduled to be held on Saturday but Mother Nature had other ideas despite Fecher's best intentions. "I was pretty confident looking at the weather," he said. "It looked like it was going to stop at 11. I said it was going to be a little wet. It was going to be a little cloudy."

When it became clear that some of the participants would not be able to make it on Saturday Fecher said the decision was made to move it to Sunday.  Even with the move close to 500 township children and their friends and family came together for a day of fun. "This year was a pretty good showing," he said. "I would have loved sunny skies and 60, but I'll take it over no rain."

Fecher said the next big event for Howell residents to look forward to is Howell Day. This year the annual township celebration is set for Saturday, July 7.
