Halloween Spooktacular Back for Another Year

Event has grown in recent years

For those Howell residents looking to get a jump on the Halloween festivities the township will be holding its annual Spooktacular tonight at Oak Glen Park.

Weather permitting the event will be held at the park from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with plenty for residents of all ages to enjoy. Steven Fecher, the director of Community Relations, said activities will include games, arts and crafts and contests for children to enter. There will also be a DJ playing spooky favorites and other popular songs as well.

Fecher said residents of all ages are encouraged to come to the park in costume as a contest will be held with several categories in each age group. Prizes will be awarded for different divisions including scariest, most original and prettiest costumes at the park. There will also be a haunted hay ride going around the fields for those in attendance to enjoy.

With a chance of rain in the forecast Fecher said the event can be moved to the old Recreation Department building but he is hopeful that will not happen. If there is no rain he said the event has the potential to be the biggest ever. "We've always done a Halloween event," he said. "In the last three years it has really grown."

In the past the event has been held at Echo Lake Park, but with rain the past few years it has been held at Preventorium Rd. building. With the larger venue, Fecher said he is hoping to have as many as 200 township children come out to the event.

Residents who do come are encouraged to do so in costume and bring a can or box of pet food that will be donated to the Humane Society.
