Howell Day Back Despite Threat of Rain

For the 39th year residents of Howell will have the chance to come together on Saturday at Oak Glen Park for the annual Howell Day festivities. 

Despite predictions of rain possibly lasting throughout the weekend, Steven Fecher, the assistant to Township Manager Helene Schlegel and the coordinator of the events said the rain should not stop the event from being held. The festivities are scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and run until 5 p.m. at the park.

With a long list of events on the agenda, Fecher said some of them could change depending on the weather, but for the most part the day should go off as planned. "We're going to be pushing for it to go," he said. Fecher added that according to the latest projections he has seen the rain should stop early in the afternoon which should just make for a wet morning.

If the weather does not interfere then there should be plenty for residents to see, hear and do. That includes the Howell Marching Band starting off the day and the combined Adelphia and Greenville School choruses singing the national anthem. The Howell Police Department will also be out on Saturday with activities for children including an identification program and a demonstration by the K-9 unit. 

There will also be plenty of other activities for children including pony rides, inflatable rides and other ways to enjoy the day as long as the rain does not interfere. And with the day starting at noon and running until 5 p.m. there will also be plenty for those in attendance to eat during the day. Fecher said groups like , the Lions Club and Shivers Ice Cream will be there selling their goods. 

In addition to the food and games, there will also scheduled to be other forms of entertainment at the park including local radio stations and a disc jockey providing music. Musician John Eddie is also scheduled to perform on Saturday. Fecher said Eddie has a loyal following and plays a variety of rock and roll music. Mayor Robert Walsh said this week Howell Day is a popular event every year and one he greatly enjoys. "I'm looking forward to it," he said. "It's always a good time to see the residents." With people's busy schedules, Walsh said the day is a good chance for people to catch up with friends and neighbors they might not otherwise see. "It's a tremendous community event." he added calling it a "very joyous occasion."
