Howell Firefighter Graduates County Fire Academy

Daniel E. Elluzzi will join the Southard Fire Department.

One Howell volunteer was presented with his official helmet Tuesday as a symbol of his successful completion of the Middletown Fire Academy's Firefighter 1 class.

Eighteen probationary firefighters from around Monmouth County participated in 43 classroom and hands-on sessions to compile the mandatory 192 hours of training required by New Jersey, according to John Isaksen, the Middletown Township Fire Department spokesman.

At the end of the course, the students each passed a series of practical skills tests and the written state examination to become certified as a NJ Level 1 Firefighter.
