Howell Library Goes Global

The Howell Public Library will hold an Earth Day and St. Patrick's Day celebration on Saturday, March 12.

Though the Howell Public Library is located in Central New Jersey, the building will have a distinctively international flair on Saturday, March 12, as there will be two different events that will highlight the world around us.

The first event will be a performance by Bob Messano, a.k.a. Guitar Bob, who will be hosting a “Kids Rock the Planet Concert.”

This show will be held from 11 to 11:45 a.m. It focuses on Earth Day and how kids can help preserve the global environment. According to his website, www.guitarbob.com, the program, “appeals to school age children and focuses on big themes like environmental awareness and global harmony.”

His show will ask for involvement from the children in attendance, and Guitar Bob notes that he would like kids to sing along with him as he performs at the library. Some of the songs he plans on performing during the morning performance include “Sam the Clam’s Blues,” “Amazon Shuffle,” and “One World Talking.”

Howell Public Library program director Dianne Reith noted she is very much looking forward to Guitar Bob’s performance, and is excited for him to bring this global awareness to the children at the library.

“The kids will enjoy the songs exploring themes ranging from caring for the environment to living harmoniously with people everywhere,” she said.

Following Guitar Bob’s performance, at 2 p.m., Ocean Township’s Bob and Mimi Harty-Koerner will be performing a variety of classic Irish tunes to those in attendance in anticipation of St. Patrick’s Day.

Mr. and Mrs. Harty-Koerner have traveled throughout the state and performed at many different libraries, playing their unique style of Irish music.

Mrs. Reith said one thing she enjoys about their work is that Irish music is a hobby for the couple, and it is something they simply enjoy doing in their spare time.

“This is a hobby for them and something they very much enjoy doing,” she said, adding recently Mr. Harty-Koerner performed in the Seaside Heights St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

This will be the first time that the duo performs at the Howell Library, and Mrs. Reith said she has high hopes for them and hopes there is a great turnout to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and all things Irish at the Howell Public Library.

“This is one of my favorite times of the year,” she said. “We’re all looking forward to the performance.”

The Howell Public Library is located at 318 Old Tavern Road. For more information on the events at the library, please call 732-938-2300.
