Howell Resident's Efforts Help Save Hundreds

Regular blood donations help save lives

There are many people who have given blood at least once or twice in their lives. Howell resident Greg Debski has donated 100 times to the Central Jersey Blood Center.

According to a story in the Asbury Park Press Debski has given a total of 116 times between New Jersey and Oklahoma which can mean as many of 300 people have been helped by his efforts.

Debski said he has given blood every eight weeks to reach the milestone donation mark. The Central Jersey Blood Center has several locations including Howell, Shrewsbury and Toms River.

In the Press' story Director of Donor Relations Laurett Gannon said the center is always looking for donors though there are not many as committed as Debski. "New Jersey, unfortunately, is one of the lowest states as far as regular blood donations," she said. "With people in New Jersey, I think because of the fast pace that we all keep in our lives, a lot of donations are on an emotional basis when somebody who you know is in need of blood. And as that person doesn't need blood anymore, that donation kind of stops there."
