Meetings, Momentous Games and More

There is plenty to do in Howell this week for people with a wide variety of interests

There are plenty of things to do and places to go to this week both inside and outside of Howell's borders for people of all ages to enjoy. Whether it is the library, a board of education meeting or a big softball game, there is no shortage of activities.

The library will be busy today, starting at 11 a.m. with baby story time that runs for half an hour. There will also be a family story time at the library starting at 4:15 for the older children and their parents to enjoy some time together with a good book.

Unlike the baby story time, the family event runs until 5 p.m. All this month the library will also have a display featuring the legendary Ford Mustang legacy. Models and memorabilia will trace the car back to its glory days in the 1960's and 70's.

On Tuesday there will be a toddler story time at 9:30 for those children who are not quite babies anymore but also not quite ready for the full experience either. The biggest event on Tuesday figures to be the Group IV semifinal game for the Howell Lady Rebels. The girls will be heading to Neptune for a 4 p.m. game against Washington Township.

The opponents the Howell squad have drawn in their first ever group semifinal following their Central Jersey Group IV title advanced after winning the South Jersey Group IV title. They entered the tournament as the third seed and got things started off quickly with an 8-0 win over 14th seeded Egg Harbor. They then made short work of sixth seeded Toms River East with a 6-0 defeat over the Shore Conference school.

The only team to even score a run against the Washington squad was second seeded Vineland. Even still Washington bumped them off with a 4-1 win. They then won the sectional title with a 5-0 win over fourth seeded Absegami.

Family Story time returns to the library on Wednesday afternoon starting at 1:30. After that a four legged friend will be at the library when a therapy dog makes an appearance at 4:30.

For those young Howell residents who are interested in the dramatic arts the Howell PAL Theatre Company will be holding auditions for a production of Annie at Middle School South on Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Those who earn call backs will be returning to the school next week.

The day will wrap up with a meeting of the Howell Board of Education with the public portion starting at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the cafetorium at Middle School North and looks to have a full agenda as the school year comes to a close.

On Thursday the schedule includes another family story time at the library starting at 10:30 a.m. Then, at 1 p.m. the movie will show the film True Grit. The movie stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Hailee Steinfeld in a modern western film.

Thursday night is also Howell Night as the Lakewood BlueClaws kick off another home stand against the West Virginia Power. The first pitch for the game is scheduled for 7:05 and the first 2000 fans will also receive a reusable tote bag.

When Friday rolls around the weekend is almost here and the Howell Chamber of Commerce will be holding another Breakfast Bonanza. This week the event is at 8 a.m. at the Celtic Charms Theraputic Horse Farm on Fort Plains Road. The event will feature a presentation on therapeutic riding and is free for all members with a $5 fee for possible members.

If you are looking to get out of town this weekend then this could be a good weekend to head to Belmar for the annual Seafood Festival. The event starts on Friday afternoon and is a great chance to take in the shore and get some really good seafood. It all wraps up on Sunday night.

If seafood is not your thing then maybe the summer flea market at Allaire State Park will interest you. The sale starts at 8 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. on Saturday. The park will also be busy on Sunday with a lesson on what the students in the area had for a life when it came to education in the 18:30's. The presentation starts at 1 p.m. and runs until 2:30.

With all that and a good chance of clear weather ahead it should be a good and busy week in the township no matter what you are hoping to do.
