Summerfest on Saturday in Community Park, Point Boro

The 21st annual Summerfest scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, with Sunday scheduled as rain date

Live music, food, children's activities and fun will be offered at the Summerfest at Community Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Summerfest will be held on Saturday in Community Park, with Sunday scheduled as the rain date.

Summerfest has been held in the borough for the past 21 years.

However, this is the first year the borough's biggest event of the year will be moved off Bridge Avenue into Community Park on Bridge Avenue and Beaver Dam Road.

It's also the first year the event will feature sales of beer and wine.

Working with The Passion Group, the Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce is running the event which features: crafters, artisans, musicians, food, children’s activities and entertainment, such as Irie Sound, Purple Empress, Rock N Roll Chorus, Elevator Art, Matt Wade Band and Undisputed.

The children's area will include inflatables, stilt walkers, face painters and a children's parade.

Just curious, what does it cost the town to run these things? Seems to me it should be one of the first things cancelled if we're over budget by a $2.6 million shortfall

Dear Mr. Hagemeyer: Summerfest is planned by, paid for and operated by the local Chamber of Commerce. Thank you for reading Patch.

The Summerfest event is actually ran by The Passion Group, not the chamber of commerce. All vendors pay a fee, that for the most part, pays for the event. The chamber does help but does not run or pay for it. The town does have to pay for extra police at the event not sure if that was paid by the chamber or the company running the event, I would guess the company running the group. An expense for the town maybe a little, but the awareness the event brings to local businesses is greater.

In 2011 and in 2012, the chamber contracted with The Passion Group to take the lead in running Summerfest. It is still considered a chamber event (since the chamber contracts with Passion Group) and not a town event, which was the distinction I was drawing.
