Video: Preventorium Hill Still the Place to Be in the Snow

Share your pictures here

For many years residents of the township have flocked to the old Town Hall to barrel down the hill on sleds, flying saucers and anything else they can use to get to the bottom as quickly as possible.

Saturday was no exception as hundreds of residents parked at the library and walked their way up only to fly back down to the bottom.

Last night a vote was held on the Howell Patch Facebook page to determine a new cover photo. A picture from the Preventorium facility was matched up against a picture of Echo Lake Park and by an overwhelming majority the sledding scene was selected.

Many people who cast votes said they could remember sledding on the hill when they were young. Eric Decowski said he could remember flying down the hill before the Howell Police Department Headquarters was built at the bottom of the hill next to the library.

Lisa Burke Szczsny said she was glad to be able to introduce a second generation of sledders to the hill. Unlike the many who were there during the day on Saturday she said she could remember hitting the hill at night and "what fun that was."

Michael Skrzenski added, "Brings back great memories," and Mike Rumola said the sledding scene, "defines Howell winters since my family moved here in the 70's."
