Flea Market, School Days At Allaire This Weekend

Historic Village holding big flea market fundraiser Saturday to support programs like Sunday's School Days

More than 125 venders are set to display their wares at 's annual Summer Flea market on Saturday.

The free event is a fund-raiser for the living history museum, promoting its educational and historical programs. There is a $5 parking fee.

The Village on Sunday will present its School Days in the 1830s program where visitors aged 6 to 12 can get an idea of what it was like to attend school in the 19th century, if only for a half hour.

Students will be instructed by a volunteer in period dress, using the Lancastrian method. Led by an older student, a group of younger children would repeat the lessons for a chosen subject, and by using their slates, pencils and lesson books, would make notations to help them remember that which they needed to learn, village officials said.

The event, which runs from 1 – 2:30 p.m. in two 45-minute sessions, is free. There is a $5 parking fee.
