Golden Sets Goals for Howell Public Schools

Board of Education finalizes business for the summer.

The upcoming school year is just around the corner and Howell Public Schools Superintendent Enid Golden announced some of her upcoming goals for the district.

At last week’s board meeting Golden said the goals were just a draft as they get ready for the start of September. The goals include improving student achievement throughout the districts including closing the achievement gap and reconvening the Technology Task Force.

Golden said she would like to see the task force working to implement suggestions by a committee that was formed last year and have those improvements approved by the board this year.

A third goal for Golden is to implement all of the components of the newly required AchieveNJ program and to complete a Strategic Plan renewal for the district by June.

While she would have liked to have worked on the plan sooner, Golden said that is not feasible with such a busy start of the school year expected. “I don’t remember a September as busy as this one,” she said.

Between hiring teachers for the new full time kindergarten program, filling in for teachers taking leaves of absence, a new teacher evaluation system and a new common core curriculum Golden said there was plenty for the board to focus on in the presents before looking at the future.
