An Election Refrain

Thanks and Best Wishes to Voters and Candidates!

With the results final, I want to briefly thank all the people associated with the recent election.

To the almost sixty thousand friends and voters who supported me (and other Democratic state, county and local candidates) in that election, I am humbled by all the effort and encouragement given. While we had relatively little funds, we nonetheless had excellent results against entrenched and well-funded incumbents. Even with the strong Christie vote, we were able to stalemate the Republican results in Monmouth County (and even pick up a few local offices.) Please keep that positive political spirit alive. Political involvement and struggle is what has always made this country great

To those who voted against me, I commend you for your participation in this important civic activity. While we may disagree on individual policy issues I know we agree on the overall objectives of improving the economy, bettering the lives of all citizens, and constantly forming “a more perfect union”.

To my Freeholder opponents, you have my best wishes for good judgment in executing your important duties on behalf of all citizens. We had reasonable policy differences, for example, on how much money should be spent on new government buildings, nursing homes, libraries, etc. (Spoiler alert, I wanted to spend less!) But I hope that you will seriously consider the important Democratic proposals made to insure a more honest, transparent, and conflict free Monmouth County government.

And finally to the approximately 60% of eligible voters who didn’t vote, I encourage you to invest the very small time necessary to make your country, state, county, and local town better places to live, learn, and work. Strong voter participation sends an important message to all candidates that they must consider the interest of all people and groups and not just the party faithful or extremists.
