County Honors Howell Little Leaguers

District champions recognized

By the time the Howell South Little League Junior League squad came home to Ramtown the team was bringing with them the 2012 Championship from the Eastern Regional Tournament.

Earlier this month the boys were recognized by the Monmouth County Freeholders for bringing the title back to Howell. "I commend the members of this groundbreaking team for bringing great honor and distinction to themselves, their league and their community," Freeholder Director John P. Curley said.

Curley credited not only the players for their success but also the contributions made by the families, coaches and friends of the team for helping them reach their goals.

The team dominated the competition in the tournament with an ERA of just 3.60. The offense put together 106 runs while only allowing 38 runs in 11 games.

Winning is nothing new for the HSLL team. Just last year they won the District 11 title as 11-year-olds adding one new member to claim another trophy. The team did not have to travel far to win their first state championship as they picked up the win at Michael Tighe Park in Freehold this summer.
