Education Foundation to be Honored by Chamber

Annual dinner to be held on Friday

When the Howell Chamber of Commerce holds its 31st Annual Dinner Dance several sections of the township will be recognized for their various contributions over the course of the past year.

One of the honorees is the Howell Township Education Foundation (HTEF). The foundation is being recognized as the Service Organization of the year by the chamber.

Larry Gurman, the chairman of the foundation said it is an honor to be recognized by the chamber just six years after their work first started. Over the past year the HTEF has held several successful events including an when former students and administrators of the district were recognized. They also held their second annual to help raise money for the district.

Gurman said as the foundation continues to grow the goal is to get more of the town involved and he hopes Friday is another step in that process. "We're trying to build the bridges with the whole community," he said. "We really want to make more of a link between all the parts of the community."

Six years into their existence Gurman said outlets like the foundation's website have helped to get the word out about their activities and what they do to help the township's public schools. "We're pleased to be recognized by the community," he said of Friday's dinner. "It gives us the opportunity for more people to understand what we're about."

According to Sue Dominguez, the executive director of the chamber, the service organization of the year is recognized for being "a non profit organization whose service and fund raising events helps the betterment of those living in the community."

The event will be held on Friday at the Eagle Oaks Country Club in Farmingdale. For more information on the event and the other honorees contac the chamber at 732-363-4114 or check out their website
