Frontier Airlines Announces Additional Passenger Routes to Florida, New Orleans from Trenton-Mercer

The low-fare airline, which today (Nov. 16) begins flying between Trenton-Mercer Airport and Orlando, Fla., on Thursday announced that early next year it would also begin flying from Mercer County to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Tampa Bay, and New Orlea

Frontier Airlines – whose new passenger service from Trenton-Mercer Airport to Orlando, Fla., begins today (Nov. 16) – yesterday announced that it will begin flying from the Mercer County airport to four additional destinations early next year.

Beginning on either Jan. 31 or Feb. 1 the Denver-based airline will offer nonstop, low-fare service from Trenton-Mercer to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Fort Myers, Fla.; Tampa Bay, Fla.; and New Orleans, La. The airline also announced that it would be basing an Airbus A319 aircraft at Trenton-Mercer to operate the expanded service.

Following the departure of Streamline Air from Trenton-Mercer in September, Frontier is now the only airline to provide scheduled passenger service from the airport in Ewing Township.

“This is an exciting day for us at Frontier as we bring significantly more low-fare options to the convenient Trenton-Mercer Airport, providing a time and money saving option to customers throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania,” Daniel Shurz, Frontier’s senior vice president-commercial, said in a news release. “Customers who fly from Trenton can now skip the congested and expensive alternative hubs in the region and enjoy quick, convenient, low-fare travel to top leisure destinations in Florida and Louisiana.”

With one of the airline’s 138-seat Airbus A319 planes serving as the backdrop, Frontier executives joined Mercer County officials at Trenton-Mercer Airport yesterday to announce the new routes.

“A lot of hard work and collaboration went into this expansion of Frontier’s low-fare service in Trenton,” said Shurz. “We want to thank Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes and his team for their dedication, partnership, and enthusiasm throughout this process. We would also like to thank Anthony Tangorra for his assistance. Anthony led a startup airline effort in the prior decade and provided Frontier with valuable assistance as it considered the Trenton market.”

“The Greater Mercer County region, with more than two million people in a 25-mile radius, is truly an untapped market, and we are pleased Frontier joins us in recognizing its value,” County Executive Hughes said in the news release. “Frontier is the right partner at the right time. We are confident the traveling public will embrace these new destinations, and as a result, the Mercer County economy will get an added boost.”

Low introductory fares for travel on the four new routes between Jan. 31 and May 15, 2013, are available from FlyFrontier.com but must be booked before 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 29..

In addition to announcing the new routes, Frontier Airlines yesterday presented the Rescue Mission of Trenton a check for $10,000 to help make repairs to the agency's 80,000-square-foot warehouse on Carroll Street in Trenton, which had parts of its roof ripped away by Hurricane Sandy.

Shurz called the donation “just a small indication that we understand the communities we serve face challenges. We want to be a good partner in the communities we serve. We’re a corporate partner but we’re human, and we know that this community has gone through a lot.”
