Having Trouble With Your TV? The Sun May be to Blame

Sun outages possible for several days

If you are a Cablevision customer and experiencing problems with your television reception, it may be the sun causing the problems.

An email sent to customers by the company on Monday said a phenomenon known as "sun outages," may be to blame for issues customers will experience until around March 8.

On the Optimum website, the company describes the outages as "an interruption in satellite signals caused by interference from solar radiation." The radiation from the sun can overwhelm the company's satellite signals which can cause issues for customers.

The outages usually only last a matter of minutes but can still impact picture quality and sound on the television channels. The website said the issues have no impact on the company's internet or phone service.
