Howell Chamber Event Teaches Valuable Internet Lessons

How to improve a company's standing on Google and other search engines helps members

Business owners gathered last Thursday at Federici’s South Family Restaurant for the Howell Chamber of Commerce’s event “How to Get Your Business Listed on Page One of Google.”

The Chamber’s event included food provided by the restaurant, as well as an informative lecture by speaker Rob Wagner. Wagner spoke to Howell’s business owners about the importance of blogging and communicating with consumers on the Internet.

“The days are gone when you look up a doctor’s office, for example, in the yellow pages,” said Wagner, who works in Patient and Community Relations for Affiliated Foot and Ankle Center, LLP. “There are so many ways to get your business’ name out there online. Blogging about topics relating to your practice, registering your business with Google, etc.”

Wagner’s colleague Chad Schwarz was happy to see the business owners’ engaged in the presentation. “Using the Internet to your business’ advantage is still a new path for some owners,” said Schwarz. “We’re here to bridge that gap and help them take advantage of what the Internet can offer.”

The event was sponsored by the chamber's medical division, but was open to members and non members alike from a variety of businesses.

Many members and prospective members in attendance kept a keen eye during Wagner’s presentation, took notes, and asked questions, including one of Howell’s most notable business owners-Mayor Robert Walsh.

“I think the Chamber is doing a great job getting the community involved,” said Mayor Walsh. “Howell’s business community has felt the brunt of this recession, so it’s great we can have events like these to assist bringing more income to the town.”

“We help local businesses prosper and get on the right track,” said Chamber chairman Kenneth French. “Anything we can do to help the community is worthwhile for us.”
