Farmingdale Preparing For Sandy's Arrival

Emergency Operations Center opening tonight

The impact of Hurricane Sandy should be felt in the next few hours into tomorrow and Tuesday and the Borough of Farmingdale is preparing to respond to help residents in emergency situations.

In an announcement on the Farmingdale Fire Department Facebook Page residents are encouraged to call 911 only in an emergency. The borough will also be activating their joint Emergency Operations Center (EOC) with Howell as of 6 p.m. tonight. The number to reach the EOC is 732-414-3239.

For anyone concerned about their home flooding the department suggests making arrangements to find other places to go. They also say certain steps should be taken before leaving home including turning off the main breaker panel to avoid power surges.

The department said acting before the storm arrives is also important for everyone's safety. "After the storm hits, conditions will deteriorate rapidly," the announcement said. "The Farmingdale Fire Department wants to help everyone possible but there may be a time during the storm when we will not respond due to extreme weather conditions."

The Farmingdale School will also be closed on Monday and Tuesday while the storm passes through the area.
