Going to Tonight's Festivities? Better Bundle Up!

Low temperatures predicted for Christmas tree and menorah lighting

If you woke up to an ice cube where you left your car last night, you know it is a cold morning here in Howell.

At 7:45 this morning the National Weather Service reported it was a brisk 25 degrees in town, but it should go up as high as 46 degrees before starting to dip again. That dip should come just in time for the annual Christmas tree and menorah lighting at Town Hall on Preventorium Rd.

The event starts at 6:30 and before the night is over the mercury in Howell could drop as low as 27 degrees. Fortunately for those who go to the event there should be plenty of coffee, tea and hot chocolate for guests of all ages.

Having been from its original date last week because of rain, the annual event is a highlight of the calendar here in Howell with residents parking in the Department of Public Works parking lot and either taking the shuttle buses up to the location or walking up the hill.

This year's festivities will be slightly different than those in the past as the township makes its transition to new facilities. The refreshments and a place to get warm will now be the main building at the location rather than the no longer used recreation building.

Steven Fecher, the Director of Community Relations, said the same events that have been popular over the years will still be held just moved to a different location on the property. That includes the games and arts and crafts and the always-popular petting zoo. "It's a gear up towards the holidays," he said.
