JCP&L Reports Significantly Lower Numbers in Township Outages

Work continuing throughout the day in Howell

Work around town has continued to bring Howell residents back on to the power grid and on Wednesday morning JCP&L reported more progress was made in those efforts.

As of 11:30 Wednesday morning the utility was reporting slightly more than 2000 residents still without power. Yesterday, an email from the mayor and council reported that more than 5000 people were without power, many of them since Saturday night. "We know with certainty that JCP&L are working around the clock trying to restore all areas," the email said.

For those residents who have been without power for more than 24 hours they can go to the Acme on Route 9 in Freehold with identification and a copy of their electric bill for free ice and water. For more information, residents are encouraged to call 1-800-545-7738.

The email also reported that water services are running as scheduled for those residents who use New Jersey American Water. Facilities around the county have been impacted by flooding and power outages, but the company said they are running on backup power so they continue to provide their regular services.

Residents wishing to dispose of items damaged by the storm including downed trees and branches can bring them to the recycling center seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. At a later date a schedule will be announced for curbside pickup.

While the cleanup efforts continue, the email from the Mayor and Council said they continue to look for other avenues to help residents. "This event was considered a federal disaster and will be handled as such," it said. More updates will be provided for residents as they become available.
