Monday Marks the Start of a Very Busy Week in Howell

Meetings, games and carnivals make for a long and exciting week

When it comes to busy weeks in Howell, it doesn't get much busier than the next few days around the township. From meetings, to big games for the Rebels, to an annual tradition there is plenty for residents of all ages to do. 

There is a full slate of meetings this week, starting tonight with a special meeting of the zoning board. There is only one item on the agenda, a proposed solar farm on Fairfield Road. The applicant, Rock Solid Realty, NJ Corp. is looking for a use variance for the site plan at tonight's meeting. The Meeting starts at 8 p.m. at .

The boys soccer team will also have one of its biggest tests of the year when they welcome the squad from CBA to town for a 3:45 game. The contest could go a long way in setting the tone for the A North standings.

Also competing on Monday is the girls soccer team which will be taking on the Dragons from Brick Township and the tennis team will be taking on Middletown North. The field hockey team will also make the short trip to Manalapan for an A North contest, while the volleyball team will make the long trip down to Southern Regional. 

Also on Monday, it is School's turn for a Back to School Night starting at 7 p.m. at the Adelphia Road building.

On Tuesday, the town council will hold a regular agenda meeting, starting at 7:30 at Town Hall. While not one of the heavier agendas the council has seen lately, two discussion items could prove interesting. The first is a continued look at a historic preservation ordinance to protect some of the older buildings in the town. 

The council will also look at the possibility of raising lighting fees for clubs and other organizations that use the fields at parks throughout the township. 

Continuing the back to school night schedule on Tuesday is School, marking the first such event for new principal . 

The Rebel cross country team will welcome Marlboro to town on Tuesday, while the volleyball team will travel to take on the squad from Jackson Liberty. Also taking to the road is the tennis team, which is scheduled to travel to Lacey for a non-divisional match. 

After meeting at their regular location on Tuesday, the council will convene again on Wednesday, this time in a special joint meeting with the Howell Board of Education at . The two boards have expanded their shared services efforts recently, including the township moving the offices to the former Southard School building. 

With the joint meeting starting at 6:15, the board of ed will hold its regular meeting following that. That part of the night is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. and it is the only meeting the board is scheduled to have this month. 

Before the boards come together, the Rebel athletes will have a busy day, including the boys soccer team taking on Middletown North, the tennis team hosting Manalapan and the girls soccer team heading to Middletown North. The gymnastics team will welcome local rival Freehold Township for a meet as well. 

On Thursday afternoon the will continue its afternoon movie series when they will show "The Next Three Days." the film came out in 2010 and stars Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson and Russell Crowe. The showing starts at 1 p.m. 

Continuing a busy week of games, the volleyball team will travel to Wall, while the gymnastics squad will travel to Colts Neck. 

The Howell Chamber of Commerce will hold an event at its office on Thursday starting at 5:30. Located at 103 W. Second Street, the networking event will include light food. 

Thursday night is also the night for back to school activities at the three middle schools in the township. 

Friday figures to be a very busy day at the local high school with the volleyball team heading to Jackson Memorial, the field hockey team going to Middletown North and the boys soccer team taking on their rivals from Manalapan on the road. Also competing away from home is the tennis team which is scheduled to take on Monmouth Regional in Tinton Falls. 

That all leads to the Rebels taking on the Mustangs of Marlboro High School in an A North football battle.

Saturday marks two big community events and the continuation of the Howell sports schedule. At 9 a.m. the Howell Elks Lodge on Ramtown Greenville Road will host a garage sale before Howell Day festivities start at Oak Glen Park at noon. 

Howell Day this year will feature a variety of activities including classic cars, pony rides for the children, food and other free rides as well as a musical performance by recording artist John Eddie. All the activities of Howell Day are weather permitting.
