Storm Cleanup Set For Monday

Brush and other remnants from recent storm to be collected throughout town

After last month's caused considerable damage and knocked out power throughout town, the bulk pickup of broken trees and branches will be held tomorrow, Monday Aug. 8.

For those residents who have not already brought their broken trees and branches to the township's recycling center, trucks will be going around town to pick up those items left on the curb. The week long delay between the storm and the pickup was meant to give those residents hardest hit the chance to gather all their collectible items according to Township Manager Helene Schlegel.

Monday's cleanup is a one time effort and the trucks will only go through the town one time. Once an area is swept for items to be removed, it will not be visited again by the crews working. Schlegel also reminded residents that any trees or brush out after Monday will be "subject to code enforcement violation."

In the email Schlegel sent to residents on July 31, she said no timetable could be given for when exactly items would be collected on Monday. "At this time it is difficult to estimate the amount of time needed for cleanup, but please be assured that every area will be done as quickly as possible," she said. "We ask for your patience and understanding during the cleanup. Some other public works' services may be delayed as a result of resources being reassigned to this effort."

Residents who do not have their broken trees and branches out at the curb in time to be cleaned up will still be able to bring those items to the recycling center. As a result of the storm the center's hours have been expanded. Until Aug. 14 it will be open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
