Summer Settles Over Howell for Quiet Week

Most major meetings are on hold for a week as school year winds down

With students at Howell High School and the other Freehold Regional High School District schools ready to graduate tonight, it looks to be a rather quiet week here in Howell as residents get ready to enjoy whatever form of summer vacation they may have.

Last week not only featured a zoning board meeting but also a council meeting and a planning board session as well. This week all three of those boards have off as they prepare to return to work next week. The Howell Board of Education will also not be back at Middle School North until next week.

There are still things to do in the township this week though, including family story time at the library today from 4:15 to 5 p.m. which follows baby story time from 11 a.m. until 11:30.

On Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10 there will be toddler story time at the library. There will also be a variety of events at the Old Tavern Road building on Wednesday including famly story time from 1:30 to 5 p.m. and a LEGO Book Club from 4:15 to 5 p.m. For the older residents there will be a book discussion of "The Thirteenth Tale," by Diane Setterfield starting at 7 p.m.

Wednesday also marks the start of the 32nd Annual Festival at St. Veronica's Church. The event starts at 6 p.m. and runs to 10 p.m. This tradition includes food, live entertainment, games and plenty more for visitors of all ages.

On Thursday the library will host another famly story time from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. At 1 p.m. the library will also hold another of it's movies. This week's selection is Morning Glory which stars Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams and Patrick Wilson.

The Howell Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly Breakfast Bonanza at the Colonial Coffee shop from 8 a.m. to 9:30 this week. That will help to wrap up the week and get everybody ready for the weekend.

For those looking for something to do this weekend, Chick-Fil-A on Route 9 will be holding a flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Allaire Village will also get a head start on the 4th of July weekend when they recreate what Independence Day was like for employees of the old Howell Works. Visitors to the park will get the chance to play games from the 1830's, see how militia would practice back then and just experience life in the 19th century. That event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday also marks the start of the 15th Annual Catholic Tent Revival at St. Veronica's Church. Running until Tuesday the event features opportunities for praise and worship as well as speakers and music as well as food for those in attendance.
