Area Farmers Struggle With Drought Gripping the Country

Galloway- , a Galloway Township resident since 1989, is an organic CSA farmer who runs Growing Home on a piece of farmland on Moss Mill Road. He said the recent drought that has been debilitating to many farmers in the area and around the country hasn’t had much of an impact on his crops.

“I’m fortunate because I grow a variety, and I always have something to pick,” Leader said. “I get to choose what goes in the basket. There’s always plenty of volume so people are happy.”

It’s been more difficult for other farmers in the area.

Barneget, Manahawkin- Patch journalist Shawn Smith put together a photo gallery of the show's highlights. Chair members from the Long Beach Island Foundation of Arts and Sciences selected seven homes, stretching from Surf City up to Barnegat Light.

According to co-chair Carin Kirkpatrick, homes are selected a few different ways. Some homes are approached by the LBIF, and others ask them to come and see if they would be able to participate.

“This tour helps to fund the foundations programs because we are a non-profit organization,” Kirkpatrick said. “Other than the arts and crafts fair, this is the biggest fundraiser we do.”

Former Toms River Mayor Released, Awaiting Court Date

Toms River- A former Toms River mayor and commiteeman, indicted on tax evasion charges, is awaiting arraignment three weeks after his arrest at a New York airport.

, 46, appeared in federal court in Newark July 10 afer being arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City the night prior.

Man Stung By Possible Stingray in Spray Beach

Barnegat / Manahawkin- Long Beach Township Police reported an unidentified male was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center Thursday night after apparently stepping on stingray.

Lt. Anthony Deely said officers responded to a secondary 911 call with members of the Beach Haven First Aid Squad at approximately 8:30 p.m. They responded to the beach at 23rd Street in the Spray Beach section of the township.
